HelloFellow User Privacy Choices Policy

At HelloFellow, we believe you should have meaningful control over your personal information. This page explains the choices available to you regarding the data we collect, how it’s used, and how you can manage or remove it at any time.

1. Access & Update Your Information

You can view and update most of your personal information directly in the app:

  • Profile details (photo, bio, travel preferences, location) — editable from the Profile screen
  • Email address — updateable from App Settings (requires confirmation from both old and new email for security)
  • Password — updateable from App Settings at any time

Some fields (first name, last name, and date of birth) are intentionally locked after onboarding to preserve identity-verification integrity. To request a correction, contact us at support@hellofellowapp.com.

2. Control Your Location Sharing

HelloFellow uses your location to connect you with nearby travelers and churches.

  • You can turn location sharing on or off at any time from your device’s system settings (iOS: Settings → HelloFellow → Location; Android: Settings → Apps → HelloFellow → Permissions).
  • When location is disabled, distance-based features will be limited, but the rest of the app remains accessible.
  • Your exact distance is only shown to confirmed friends. All other users see a general “Nearby” indicator.

3. Control Notifications

You can manage push notifications (messages, friend requests, devotionals, nearby travelers) from your device’s notification settings for HelloFellow.

4. Control Your Visibility

  • Online presence: Your online/recently-active status is visible to other verified users. You can sign out to immediately appear offline.
  • Friend requests: Only verified users can send or receive friend requests.
  • Blocking & reporting: You can block or report any user from their profile. Blocked users cannot view your profile or contact you.

5. Manage Your Subscription

  • View, manage, or cancel your HelloFellow Pro subscription at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play account.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
  • You can restore prior purchases from the Subscription Settings screen.

6. Download or Request Your Data

You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Email support@hellofellowapp.com with the subject line “Data Access Request” and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Delete Your Account & Data

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time:

  • Go to App Settings → Delete Account
  • Confirm the deletion
  • Your profile, messages, photos, location history, verification documents, and subscription records will be permanently removed from our servers

Account deletion is immediate and irreversible. Identity verification documents are deleted automatically after admin review, regardless of whether you delete your account.

8. Withdraw Consent

You may withdraw your consent for optional data processing (such as location, notifications, or media access) at any time by:

  • Disabling the relevant permission in your device settings, or
  • Deleting your account if you wish to remove all data entirely

Withdrawing consent for required data (such as identity verification) means you will no longer be able to use HelloFellow.

9. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

HelloFellow does not sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We never have, and we have no plans to.

10. Children’s Privacy Choices

HelloFellow is intended for users 18 and older. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at support@hellofellowapp.com and we will remove the account immediately.

11. Region-Specific Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights:

  • California residents (CCPA/CPRA): right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale/sharing (we do not sell or share)
  • EU/UK residents (GDPR): right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection
  • Other regions: equivalent rights under your local privacy laws
